Chapter 1: The Potato Revelation 🥔😱
So, you wanna know how Charlie’s Snack Box came to life?
Alright then — pull up a chair, grab a chip, and let me tell ya how this madness started...
We’ve been running events for years with our main gig, Charlie’s Crazy Bouncy Castles. We’ve always said we want to offer top service and fair prices — so everyone, no matter their budget, can have a great time.
But here’s the thing… every time we hired a catering company for our events, we saw people paying £6 (sometimes more!) for a portion of chips. SIX QUID! For a potato that’s been deep-fried! 😭
I remember thinking, “Come on, mate, it’s not a golden spud!”
And to make it worse, the company claimed to have a 5-star food safety rating — but let’s just say, it didn’t exactly sparkle in the cleanliness department. As a chef with 13 years under my belt, that proper wound me up. I thought, “We can do better. Cleaner. Tastier. Fairer.”
Chapter 2: The Crazy Idea 💡
One day, I’m chatting with my dad (who’s just as mad as me), and I say:
“I want to start a burger van.”
Next thing you know, I’m off picking up an old trailer, and together, me and Dad stripped it down and built our very own burger wagon. From bolts to bun racks, we did the lot.
And boom — Charlie’s Snack Box was born! 🙌
We did everything by the book — food safety training, gas checks, all the boring paperwork — and before long, we earned our shiny 5-Star Food Safety Rating. The inspector even said it was one of the cleanest burger vans they’d seen in ages! (Proud moment, that one.)
Chapter 3: Going Big 🚚🔥
A year flew by, business was booming, but there was one little problem — our trailer just couldn’t keep up. We’d outgrown it!
After another one of those “Dad, I’ve got an idea…” chats, we decided to go big. I bought a van, and Dad — who fancies himself as some sort of mechanical Picasso — grabbed his angle grinder and started cutting into it! 😅
I’ll be honest, watching him attack my van with power tools was terrifying. But fair play, the man’s a genius. You can even see the chaos unfold on TikTok if you fancy a laugh.
Fast forward to now — we’ve got our dream burger van, we’re rocking up to events all over, and we’re even serving at the Bugle Horn in Charlton Village when Charlton play at home, and Orpington Rovers FC. Not bad for two blokes and a crazy idea, eh?
It’s been a wild ride, full of grease, laughs, and a lot of chips — and we’re only just getting started.
